Ned Kewlly was executed for murder and highway man. He was known for his "armour" the helmet of which is depicted in the painting. He wore his armour and was shot down as it was insufficient to withstand the bullets. He has become famous Austrlian icon although a criminal.
I had been framing for my wife, Ekaterina Mortensen, and then at the start of 2008 decided I should do some paintings to put in the frames myself. Having told Katya for years that if ever I paint I would paint with a large brush on large canvases, I started with small ones - miniatures. My earliest miniatures picked up a Highly Commended in the Royal National Canberra Art Show in 2008, followed by a Second Prize (miniatures) in 2009, 2nd Prize in Goulburn Workers Club Annual Art Prize acrylics section in 2024. I have had works hanging at The Artists Shed in Queanbeyan, the TAP Gallery in Darlinghurst, Sydney - including a joint exhibition with my wife - and the Rotary Camberwell Exhibition in Melbourne, Royal Canberra Show, Sydney...
